Privacy Policy

Who I Am

I am Ray Clark, author of Forbidden Bitcoin. My website is:

General Provision

Privacy laws are complex and constantly shifting. There are thousands of different laws across as many different national, state, provincial, and other sub-national legal jurisdictions. The thought of trying to comply with so many laws brings into razor-sharp focus the futility of my existence. Therefore, I unload the burden squarely upon you, my website visitors. If any part of this privacy policy doesn’t abide by any legal jurisdiction under which you live, you are forbidden from using my website. If you proceed to use my website despite the presence of any such conflict or misalignment, you agree to take full responsibility for your actions.

Data Collection

What and Why

If you set up an account you may be asked for a first name, last name and valid email address. Your first and last name are used to personalize your experience on my website. Pseudonyms are fully acceptable. Your email address is used as a unique identifier for your account, and if necessary, to contact you. If you purchase anything from me, a record of your purchases will be retained for accounting reasons. Technical data such as what browser you use, what website referred you, and so on, may be collected to help improve my website (see Google Analytics, below).

If you have an account and you log in to this site, a temporary cookie will be set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, several cookies will be set to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Data Retention

For users that register on my website, the information they provide is stored in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their own information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. Your data will be retained for as long as your account is active, or until you log in and delete it, or until my website is taken offline, or until the heat death of the universe — whichever comes first.

Data Sharing

I never share your information except as outlined in the third-party services listed on this page.

Third-Party Services

Below this point, I will attempt to disclose all third-party services used on my website which may collect, use, or in any way touch your personal information. I may add or remove such services at any time. I may forget to include one or more in this list, but I will try to keep it updated. If you do not accept this scenario, you are forbidden from using this website.

What does Google Analytics record?

  • Which websites visitors are coming from.
  • How long the visits last.
  • What kind of computer visitors are using.
  • Browsers being used.
  • Aggregate number of visitors over time.
  • And other anonymous (non-personally-identifying) information.

What do I do with the data?

I mostly use this data to better understand the people coming to my site and how they are getting here. This helps me know where it’s best to focus my efforts to share Forbidden Bitcoin.

All of my activity falls within the bounds of the Google Analytics Terms of Service. To learn how Google uses the data, they provide a page called “How Google uses data when you use our partners’ sites or apps”.
